Grill Safety Tips

🔥 PROPANE GRILLS

• Always store propane tanks outdoors, away from heat sources (including the grill).
• Never store or transport propane tanks in your car’s trunk.
• Turn the gas completely off after use and when changing the tank.
• Inspect tanks for damage before refilling.
• Limit of two 20-pound tanks on the property of a one- or two-family home.
• To check for leaks, spray soapy water on the connections—bubbles = leak. Replace parts if needed.
• Ensure all connections are tight before turning on the gas, especially after long periods of non-use.
• Always ignite with the lid open.
• When done grilling, turn off the gas first, then the controls.

🔥 CHARCOAL GRILLS

• Never use indoors—charcoal grills are for outdoor use only.
• Use no more than 2 inches of charcoal in the base.
• Only use barbecue starter fluid, and never add fluid to an open flame.
• Let fluid soak in for a minute before lighting to reduce risk of vapor ignition.
• Permitted on terraces/balconies only if:
  • There is at least 10 feet of clearance from the building.
  • A water source (hose or 4 gallons of water) is immediately nearby.
• Store starter fluid safely away from the grill.
• Dispose of ashes in a metal container with a tight lid. Add water and ensure ashes are fully cooled before disposal.

🔌 ELECTRIC GRILLS

• Never use lighter fluid or any combustible materials.
• If using an extension cord, ensure it is rated for the grill’s amperage.
• Keep the cord unplugged when not in use and out of walkways to prevent tripping.
• Always follow the manufacturer’s instructions.
